Sun Opposite Mars

This is the aspect of the adversary. The native, who often considers themselves mild, is followed through life by combative people: a bullying employer, a competitive brother, a partner who picks fights, a neighbour with a grievance about a fence. The pattern is too consistent to be luck. What is happening is that the native has assigned their own force to somebody else and is then obliged to deal with it from the outside, which is exhausting and, in the long run, instructive.

Anger in these charts is late and enormous. The native absorbs provocation for months, says nothing, and then ends the relationship in a single afternoon with a completeness that frightens everyone including themselves. Between such episodes they are conciliatory to a fault and take pride in it. Physical accidents tend to involve another party rather than pure carelessness: collisions, disputes, injuries received rather than self-inflicted. Partnership and open enmity being the same house in the old reckoning, marriage and rivalry are often the same arena here.

The turn comes when the native stops asking why they attract such people and starts asking what they have been refusing to do themselves. Reclaimed, the opposition gives an unusual competence with conflict: the native can sit opposite a hostile party and negotiate without either collapsing or escalating, because both positions are familiar from the inside. Advocates, arbitrators and trade negotiators are often built this way. Choosing the meek half permanently does not work; it simply recruits a louder opponent, and the chart is patient about arranging one.
