Nerve is native and cheap. The native says the difficult thing, walks into the hospital room, makes the telephone call nobody wants to make, and does not afterwards consider it an achievement. Appetite and vitality are good, moods are strong but short, and physical work is genuinely restful. In a household this is the person everyone quietly organises around during a crisis, and the person nobody thinks to thank, because they made it look like an ordinary Tuesday.
The unnoticed trap is a lack of sympathy for hesitation. Having never had to manufacture courage, the native cannot see the machinery in anybody else, and their advice to the frightened is worthless and briskly delivered. Nothing forces refinement, either. The same directness that works at twenty is still being applied at fifty to situations that wanted subtlety, and the native reads the resulting damage as other people being oversensitive rather than as a technique never developed past its first version.
Direction is the whole question. Undirected, the contact produces a busy, capable, faintly restless life with little accumulated in it and a trail of people who found the native abrupt. Directed, by a demanding craft, a command, or the long care of somebody who cannot be hurried, it becomes an engine that does not stall. The native who takes on something that will not yield to speed learns the one thing the trine cannot teach on its own, which is that force is not the same as effectiveness.
