Moon Conjunct Neptune

Feeling and imagination fuse when the Moon meets Neptune, giving a person who absorbs the mood of a room completely and cannot always say which part of it was theirs to begin with.

There is no membrane here. The Moon's business is what a person needs and feels; Neptune's is the dissolving of edges, and conjoined they produce someone who takes in the emotional weather of a house the way cloth takes water. Such natives are frequently told they are sensitive, which understates it. They do not observe another person's distress, they run it. The gift is an uncanny accuracy about what is really going on beneath what is being said. The cost is that the accuracy arrives without a label on it.

In daily life the blurring is practical. Plans made on Tuesday are recalled differently on Friday, and the native's account of childhood is a set of atmospheres rather than events. Refusal comes hard: a request is felt as a need, and the need is already half inhabited before the answer is given. Alcohol, sedatives and long sleep are attractive because they thicken a boundary that was never firm. Money leaks away in small charitable increments. In an argument the native does not counter, they absorb, then feel unwell for two days afterwards.

What steadies this contact is not toughening but attribution. The native who learns to ask, on feeling a sudden grief in a waiting room, whose grief it is, recovers most of what the conjunction costs and keeps all of what it gives. Music, nursing, painting and the care of small children all reward the porousness directly. Left unexamined it produces a life organised around other people's states, with a private conviction of having been used that is rarely spoken aloud. The conjunction does not want a harder person. It wants an accurate one.
