Mars Square Jupiter

The trouble is one of proportion, not of will. Mars sets a pace the body can hold; Jupiter sets a target the calendar cannot. Squared, the native agrees to the target and then attempts it at the pace, which works until roughly the third week. Deadlines are met by all-night labour rather than by planning. Quotes are given low and hours run high. In argument the position is stated at twice its actual strength, and the native then has to defend ground they never meant to hold.

There is a moral edge to this square that the trine does not have. Jupiter squared by Mars produces strong opinions about what is right and a readiness to fight for them, sometimes before checking the facts. Such natives make effective campaigners and difficult colleagues. They are quick to accuse and slow to notice that the accusation was partly appetite wearing a principle. Sport, litigation, politics and religious controversy attract them. Physical injury from overreach is common, particularly to the thighs, hips and liver, the parts these two govern between them.

What the friction builds, over time, is an honest estimate. The native who survives three or four expensive miscalculations begins to add a margin, and the margin is the achievement; nothing else in the chart would have taught it. Past forty these people are frequently the best judges of scale in the room, precisely because they know the shape of their own optimism. The cost is a decade of unnecessary damage to credit, joints and friendships, and the square does not waive it in exchange for good intentions.
