Competence is the whole self-definition here. Ask what this person contributes and the answer will be specific: the accounts reconcile, the manuscript is clean, the machine runs because somebody serviced it on schedule. There is little appetite for the platform and considerable appetite for being indispensable just behind it. Standards are internal and high, applied first to their own output and only then, often silently, to everyone else's. The silence rarely holds; the correction eventually arrives, phrased helpfully and received as criticism.
The method is analytical and incremental. A problem is broken into parts, the parts are ordered, the worst part is done first. Such a person notices the loose thread, the misfiled date, the sentence that contradicts page four, and cannot unnotice it. In a household this manifests as systems: labelled shelves, a specific way the dishes go, an actual reason for each arrangement that will be explained if asked. Service given here is practical rather than sentimental. Somebody arrives with soup, a spare key and the name of a good solicitor.
The difficulty is that nothing is ever finished to satisfaction. Work is revised past the point of improvement, and the sharpest fault-finding is turned inward, where it does the most damage and earns the least credit. Anxiety often lodges in the body, in the digestion and the sleep. From outside this looks like fussiness. From inside it is a persistent sense that things are one small negligence away from going wrong, and that the negligence would be theirs.
